Mammoth

After a late start yesterday with a stop at Taqueria Chihuahua for some lengua and cabeza tacos, Mark and I made it up to Mammoth after battling constant chop with two very distinct head bobbers that I was certain had broke the bottles of wine in the back. Luckily no.
We hadn't been up here for a few years and it has changed a lot. First off, there is now commercial air service that flies in once a day, there is a new "village" and a bunch of new restaurants. After a short nap, we got a shuttle to Petras. Part of the Alpenhof hotel, I was surprised at how good the experience was. Roasted beets to start. The portion was huge. I ordered the Maple duck breast, which was fantastic and Mark had the Arthur special (anything salmon). Dessert was also an Arthur special )anything apple). The best part was the wine selections. 1/2, whole glasses to choose from; I had a 1/2 glass of Sancerre to start and graduated to a wine from Napa called Seduction. After 1 1/2 glasses more of this wine between us, we decided to just order a bottle. The selling point was we could take whatever we didn't finish home with us. The catch is you have to carry the wine out in your cupped hands.

Na, just kidding.
The bill made me laugh in that we spentmore on wine than food.

Right now, its almost 11 and we are just finishing up breakfast. The wind is howling and I am not looking forward to going out there and subjecting myself to the weather. I have become a chicken. But at this very moment, I am a warm chicken. Mark has forgotten a fleece so he has to buy one somewhere. Silly.

Day 1:

Private gondola.

Marks 1st lift of the day

Marks 2nd run. No, just resting.

Did I mention the 30-45 mph winds?
The slopes were pretty empty by 3:30.
